On both my wired connection at the office and on my wireless connection at home (via router on 20mbps cable connection), I am experiencing slow internet browsing. This is not limited to one browser as I am using Firefox, Opera & Chrome. Local network file transfers seem fine. File transfers over the internet seem fine. The problem seems to occur in resolving http addresses. When an address is first entered into the address bar of the browser or when a link is followed from any page, there is a delay. I have done some tests and oddly it seems that performance is generally better with ipv6 enabled for some reason.

OK, more context. more data on your hardware
Sounds like (the delay that is for an http addresss) might be your system, in general, as all the icmp replies you have are 55-60ms, which is an insignificant

- Might also be useful to know your LAN/router setup connections, and if you are using any special software operations, like ICS (windows) or bridging(router )
- If none of the above, to me, looks like..
- Insufficient RAM
- Insufficient browser cache
- Too many applications running concurrently
--check with system monitor in mint (Gnome desktop edition)

Re: slow internet page loading problem (with tests)
Thanks for your reply DrHu, however, I don't think it is my system as I have much faster performance in Windows 7 on the same machine (see tests above)...DrHu wrote:http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 61&start=0

The laptop has 4gb. I think this should be sufficientDrHu wrote: If none of the above, to me, looks like..

Thanks for those links. Again, I reiterate there are no issues browsing in Windows 7. However, I have changed the MTU setting to 1492 in Mint 8 manually for my wireless connection for home. This appears to have fixed the problemDrHu wrote: Your NIC
