my laptop monitor has gone black-- SOLVED

Post by mscatamaran »

no matter the problem i always post in the Newbie section because i've had Linux for over two years and still consider myself a novice.

so here's my problem: for about a week now my monitor has been going black. then i restarted it and everything was fine til the next time. then today it went black while i was checking my email, i restarted it and it still was black. i have a dell inspiron 1521and am using Linux Mint felicia main.. i will eventually upgrade but just haven't had the chance yet. when the monitor is black it still makes all the normal start-up noises and sounds like everything is okay but its not visually.

anyway does anyone know whats happening and how to fix it....

Power management? Hardware fault? Do you still have the livecd or perhaps Windows installed? If so boot to that and check if the screen still goes black. If it does it's probably a hardware fault.

You could try plugging in a external monitor, to see if its a hardware or software problem.

Can't you just remake one? It's very difficult with problems such as this to give answers unless you help diagnose the problem. Trying alternatives is the first thing to do.
