I agree, the Xfce Panel is so much better than the panels/taskbars in Gnome and KDE ... that there is no need for a Dock.
The Xfce panels are very easy to use and extremely customizable. Kinda makes using Xfce worthwhile.

Re: Which LinuxMint version and WM do you use?
Not much has changed from my initial post. I now run Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop but I took Arch off and dual booted with Mint 7 Xfce. My big rig is running Arch with Fluxbox and Fedora 12 Xfce. Two of my boys lost Mint 7 Xfce and went with Fedora 12 Xfce. They seem to like the change. Daughter still runs Mint 7 Xfce.
I am pretty much distro-agnostic when it comes to Linux but I think this family have all settled on Xfce as the DE. I do enjoy running Fluxbox on Arch though.

Re: Which LinuxMint version and WM do you use?
So ... Which flavor of Operating System, version, browser, Desktop Environment, Window Manager ... do you use?
I know there are a bunch of new guys here, in the Mint Forums ... let's hear it?
Which OS does Linus Torvalds use ? Or Clem ... does he use Mint? Which Mint do the Devs use?
Does Mark Shuttleworth use Ubuntu? Which version?
Inquiring minds, want to know.

Re: Which LinuxMint version and WM do you use?
Mint 8, Gnome version, with desktop modified back to standard gnome menu/layout, except i left the Mint Menu button at bottom left corner so i have a frame of reference when trying to troubleshoot or resolve issues for others. I prefer the layout of the standard Gnome menu, but like the simplicity and ease of use of Mint in general. Cheers.
edit: Forgot this bit.
Operating System/Distribution: Mint 8
OS Version:Main on some, but currently Universal on recent install, prefer to add what I need, after ripping out all the unneeded locale/language stuff.
Kernel version:
Windows Manager/Desktop Environment: Gnome
Dock: no
Conky: No
Browser: Firefox 3.5.7, occasionally Chrome, or Opera.
IM: Xchat-Gnome, Emesene
Other OS's used: Fedora 12, Ubuntu 8.04, Win XP, Mandriva 2010, Debian Lenny (all used on various machines), and also "tinker" with others on occasion thru boredom, and curiousity. Trying to decide if should use CentOS on another box. Too lazy right now. Just lost my job, so need to focus on other things.

Re: Which LinuxMint version and WM do you use?
Helena main, i'll probably switch to XFCE when it's released though.
Re: Which LinuxMint version and WM do you use?
I'm currently dual-booting the main edition and the fluxbox edition, both of Helena. Seriously considering moving over completely to fluxbox. (Although I'll keep the Gnome version for a couple of things.)

Main System
1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
3 GB of RAM
Intel on-board graphics
320 GB Western Digital SATA Hard Drivek
Realtek on-board NIC
Intel on-board sound
LG Combo Drive
Operating system - LinuxMint 8 x64 Gnome fully updated and running the 2.6.31-19 kernel
Test System
AMD 5200 Duel Core processor
4 GB of RAM
NVidea GT 220 with 1 GB DDR 3
320 GB Western Digital SATA Hard Drive
On-board ATI sound and NIC (I don't remember off the top of my head...)
LG Combo Drive
Operating System - LinuxMint 8 KDE x64 fully updated and running the 2.6.31-19 kernel.
Additional Test System
AMD 4000+ Processor
2 GB of RAM
NVidea 6200 on-board graphics
120 GB White Label SATA Hard Drive (Very noisy and slow....)
On-board NIC and sound (I don't remember the specifics, they just work. )
LG Combo Drive
Operating System - Currently running Ubuntu 10.04 fully updated
I tend to run what runs the best on the particular hardware. The test machine is the workhorse, it can handle the x64 KDE release and run 2 virtual machines at the same time for testing. I got a lot of new hardware for the test system for Christmas. My main system runs great with the x64 Gnome edition. My main system is no powerhouse but it always runs when the other systems fail. I have an early P4 system that has the Mint 8 Fluxbox Edition on it for my 4 year old son but this machine needs some work because of failing hardware.
Now everyone knows what I am running.

Re: Which LinuxMint version and WM do you use?
I am currently dual booting Mint 8 KDE and Gnome on this system with extra space reserved for testing distributions ( including Mint of course ). All the de's and wm's have their strengths and weaknesses and I have never been able to decide on just using one of them so I tend to de / wm hop along with distro hopping.

Re: Which LinuxMint version and WM do you use?
In order to keep my sanity in check for when I start work on Mint 9, I need to step away from Fluxbox for a couple of months. That and I'd really like to learn all the little ins and outs of KDE.anticapitalista wrote:Not running your own Mint-8-fluxbox? Why's that?
