Enlarge minimize/maximize/close buttons

here is what I am running
OS: LMDE 6 (faye) x86_64
Kernel: 6.1.0-16-amd64
Uptime: 3 hours, 11 mins
Packages: 2322 (dpkg)
Shell: bash 5.2.15
Resolution: 1920x1080, 1920x1080
DE: Cinnamon 5.8.4
WM: Mutter (Muffin)
WM Theme: Fresh-Cinnamon (Cinnamox-Heather)
Theme: waterbody [GTK2/3]
Icons: Mint-Y [GTK2/3]
Terminal: gnome-terminal
CPU: AMD FX-8320E (8) @ 3.200GHz
Memory: 2178MiB / 32062MiB

I want to keep the waterbody theme for the Applications so "change the theme" is not going to work.
I thought I found the the minimize/maximize/close button icons here

I tried replacing them with larger icon but that didn't work.
I need to find where the icon size and/or the icons themselves live.

In my case with Cinnamon 20.3 with Crux theme, the size of the icons is set in ~/.themes/themename/metacity-1/metacity-theme-3.xml.
