Add field/function in Startup Apps to make scripts executable

Post by SilenceIsG0lden »

I'm hoping this is the right place -- I don't know if the Startup Apps is a function of Cinnamon or of Linux Mint in general.

I just went through a lengthy troubleshooting process of a script which ended in my realizing that I needed to make the script executable...

In my 4 years on this OS I had not run into this, as far as I recall.

My suggestion is to add a field in the Startup Applications dialogue that if you're adding a script to automatically start on boot, it will make that script executable. Or at the very least to have a written reminder that it's necessary to do so.

For anyone coming from the Windows world, where the file endings are indicative of the file's function, having to go through the extra step of making a file executable is something so foreign that this necessity is not even on the radar. We don't need to do that with any other file type.
