After adding my laptop to the hardware list I was looking trough the list and it can be a little confusing I think. The list is sorted by the model name which is user input. It would be much better and easier to read if the list was sorted by manufacter with the secondary sort on the model. This way all Dell laptops would be listed together.

You point at a problem - a lot of laptops can have same model name but completely different content
I've seen the same model name on laptops with both Intal and AMD propcessors....

If community.linuxmint.com is indeed
THE WEBSITE FOR ALL USERS OF LINUX MINT
then why doesn't it accept your forum username and password?

Two reasons - it's alpha and that is not quite easy to achieve but we do have a way to use the same user+pass in all the Mint sites (there's the wiki too) on the agenda (at least the long term one :))

There appears to be a bug in the code to display My Ideas when adding new ones. I added 4 new ideas today one after another and although these were shown in the full list of ideas immediately, My Ideas only showed the first one even after refreshing and leaving and re-entering the site.

Got a few thoughts I'd like to share.

Bugs (?)
  • I'm not able to report bugs in the launchpad
  • Registered usernames are case-sensetive.
    • Deathgasm
    • deathgasM
    • DeathgasM
    • They can all be different users.
Above bug is related to http://community.linuxmint.com

Feature suggestions
  • Replace the chat with something more lightweight like a socketbased php-script or such.

You'll need to report this to launchpad https://help.launchpad.net/Feedback, mint doesn't control logins there.

Bugs in community.linuxmint.com
community.linuxmint.com Bugs
community.linuxmint.com does not use Launchpad for bug tracking.

Enable bug tracking.
That's what the page says at https://bugs.launchpad.net/community.linuxmint.com
Do I have to get invited or something to gain access to it?

AFAIK launchpad hasn't been enabled whilst its in alpha stage, the bugtracking is just on this forum. Not sure why the link exists though, possibly would be better to have a dummy link for the time being.

Correct - the commuity site does not use launchpad, Mint does :)
(We are currently working on getting the bug tracking to work better)

Just had a quick look at the new software module, I read the blog post about it and I'm a little confused as to how Opera has a score of 6? I thought it displayed as between -3 and 3?

Each review gives it between 1 and 5 stars... 3 stars being the neutral vote ("so so"), 1 and 2 stars meaning the reviewer didn't like the app, 4 and 5 meaning he did. So anyway, that number of stars is substracted by 3 and that translates to a score of -2, -1, 0, +1 or +2. We add up all the individual scores of an app, and we get its overall score that way.

So, for instance, let's take the following example:

Joe gives Opera a 5.
Clem gives Opera a 5.
Luke gives Opera a 1.
Jen gives Opera a 3.

The overall score for Opera will be: +2 +2 -2 +0 = 2

If it wasn't for Luke, the overall score would have been: +2 +2 +0 = 4

The more people like an app the bigger the overall score goes, the more people dislike it the slower it gets. There's no minimum/maximum score... each reviewer can impact it by -2, -1, 0, +1 or +2.

There's an error with a stylesheet (probably) in that the "presentation page" (don't know what to call it) is cut off to the right
At least in my Firefox the Opera page is cut off just to the right of 11 and no horizontal scroll

Ah I see, I thought it was going to be the average vote, makes much more sense to me now! yeah I can see how that was the most sensible method to do it. Thanks Clem

This page, logged in
which I reach from Community > Software > Click the Opera link
The other top packages are OK, but the pages are dynamically generated I suppose so why Opera is a problem I don't know
(but it was always a problem when I was webmaster :))

It's working fine for me Husse. Could it be your resolution or something?

My Firefox does not Like Opera :)
Just emptied the cache, no difference
Remember the blog had a similar problem
Nothing to do with resolution I think....

 Please add some sort of reporting of those who are, um, overly passionate when they add reviews.
