Re: Helena Xfce CE Development(updated Mar 03)
LinuxMint-8-Xfce-DEV-009.iso has been approved as a release candidate. Expect it to start hiting some of the servers either later today or early tomorrow.
It's pretty awesome, merlwiz79 has done an admirable job with this one.
EDIT: Here she is

Re: Helena Xfce CE Development(updated Mar 04)
Glad you like it Mdyter.
A lot of the other mirrors have it too.(in testing)
Here is the md5sum for everyone who is downloading early.
15a37a56b27c1c840ba50c2bc5fe77a3 LinuxMint-8-Xfce-RC1.iso
Make sure to burn at a low setting.(ie 2x)
Now to get the release notes done later tonight.
Got to take the dog to the vet and then cook dinner.
Hope to get them done ASAP and give them to clem.
Hopefully he can then post them soon there after.

Re: Helena Xfce CE Development(updated Mar 03)
OK man, I am downloading and I will test this baby out! Looking forward.... ok, I'm off to do some weeding, lol...
EDIT: OK, it started raining... lol... I installed it and it seems really fast. Nice familiar menu.... should be good...
As usual with all Mint 8 versions, due to a installer bug I had to run the "sudo apt-get remove dmraid" before the partitioner in the installer saw all of my sata drives.
Thanks!!!

Re: Helena Xfce CE Development(updated Mar 21)
Ok the RC doesn't seem to have any bugs.
Also translations are needed for mintdesktop-xfce. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 35#p244835
How does this look?clem wrote:Improvements for the stable release:
- In isolinux, place a space between CE and "("
- remove trash / floppy. Put file system at the top and home under it, on the desktop.
- remove workspace switcher
- show date in clock applet
Going towards an RC release. Congratulations Merlwiz.
Clem.

That's because ... you rock!!merlwiz79 wrote:Ok the RC doesn't seem to have any bugs.
You made a great release of LinuxMint-8 Xfce CE ... done right, the first time.
Re: Helena Xfce CE Development(updated Mar 07)
where is the final Mint 8 xfce CE?
Please...

Re: Helena Xfce CE Development(updated Mar 07)
There will be a new ISO when clem tests and passes it.coman norbert wrote:where is the final Mint 8 xfce CE?

It just has a new panel layout and desktop layout.
It also has the updated mintdesktop-xfce.
I hope it passes all the test.
Exploder has already passed it.
I really couldn't reproduce any bugs in the bug thread.
Re: Helena Xfce CE Development(updated Mar 07)
LinuxMint-8 Xfce CE ... another excellent release!
Thanks Merlwiz79, it's working great, nice, easy to use and fast!!
Orange and Tomboy are opening before autostart and causing some delay there but I presume that is due to the fact that I'm using my pre-existing, /home partition from Mint-7 Xfce CE... I'm sure I'll get that (no doubt, self inflicted bug) worked out soon.
Sure is nice to have such a wonderful set of applications, all in an Xfce environment ... This release Rocks!!!

Re: Helena Xfce CE Development(updated Mar 07)
Question:
Will there be a Mint Menu like the main edition for Xfce? I want to introduce Linux Mint Xfce to a Windows friend, but I'm afraid the cluttered Xfce menu would make her go "Whoa! What are all these stuffs!?"

Sorry it's made for gnome.xxxxiangxxxx wrote:Question:

It would have to be completely rewritten to work 100% in Xfce.
I just don't have the knowledge to do it.
If I did I would do it.
Re: Helena Xfce CE Development(updated Mar 07)
Aw, I was dying for it...
But it's ok, I might just give her the main edition disk instead. But first, let's hope that her computer boots up with the disk.

Re: Helena Xfce CE Development(updated Mar 31)
The ISO has passed all tests.clem wrote:Congratulations, this ISO will be released as Mint 8 Xfce stable.

If you have the RC thee are 2 xfce ce packages to update.(mintupdate-xfce has updated es and Italian translations)
You won't get the new panel or desktop layout.
Those are basically the only changes.
I will try to have the next release within a month of the Final ISO of the Main edition.
If I don't feel like doing this.
I am going to install Xubuntu Beta 1 10.04

Re: Helena Xfce CE RELEASED!!!!
I am currently, downloading both Xfce and LDXE CE via torrent.
I love what I've seen of Mint-8 Xfce CE so far. I have no doubt, it's even better.
I also, love Openbox, so I'm gonna try out the new LXDE CE, as well.

@merlwiz79 Will you be using your NEW computer for this? Can we expect both 32 and 64-bit versions of Mint-9 Xfce?
Re: Helena Xfce CE Development(updated Mar 31)
Yep once I get the rest of the donations I will buy all the parts and put it together.vrkalak wrote:@merlwiz79 Will you be using your NEW computer for this? Can we expect both 32 and 64-bit versions of Mint-9 Xfce?
Then I can make a 64 Bit Xfce CE.
