Hide MintUpdate's icon when there aren't updates
Hi. In my opinion, it would great if mintupdate's icon appears only when there are new upgrade. In this way the systray is more clear and have more space for other icons.
Re: Hide MintUpdate's icon when there aren't updates
As far as I know, there is no app that will do exactly what you ask for.
You can go to Menu=>Preferences=>Startup Applications and remove the check mark for mintUpdate. This will keep the updater from running automatically at start up. The downside is that you will not get automatic notification of updates. You will have to periodically launch the Update Manager from the menu to check for updates.

In other distro, like ubuntu, there's a icon that appears (only) when new update is available.
For example, in this screenshot

It can be "ruled out" in a previous discussion (I didn't read it; wasn't a member here or a Mint user, then...), but the net effect can be accomplished with the tools already available -- simply change the icons you don't want to display to "blank" image files; a small blank spot will still appear on the menu where that/those icons used to be, however...
Re: Hide MintUpdate's icon when there aren't updates
this sounds more like and ugly hack than a real solution
i came to this post looking for a way to hide that update icon.
There are absolutely NO reason to keep a "your system is updated" icon all the time.
AND it does not mach the tray icons silver theme.
i fail to see why a simply matchbox to show/notshow beside the icons pref would hurt anyone...

Re: Hide MintUpdate's icon when there aren't updates
Agreed Mr.Big. Its non-sense show "your system is updated" all the time.
Re: Hide MintUpdate's icon when there aren't updates
Also agree, have prevented it from running on system startup for the same reason - not only is its icon a big, clumsy out of place thing in the panel, it also insists on being visible at all times. It's like a smoke alarm that makes a constant "nothing detected as of yet" sound to let you know there's no smoke.
Re: Hide MintUpdate's icon when there aren't updates
I am disable update manager from startup application and running update manager manually. After finishing update or no update found , just right click on update manager and press quit.
