can not use wine ok in gnome SOLVED

Post by reahjw6 »

Hey all
I have added Xfce to my existing installation and all works wonderfully.
The only problem i can not use wine.
I have some software added to mint that i need for my studies that works fine in Gnome.
When i logout and back in under XFCE the software and wine is there but will not open.
Any ideas.
Thanks Reahjw6.

Are you using anything like winetricks, PlayOnLinux, WineDoors?

Find the .desktop launcher (the icon you click) of your Windows application, open it in Gedit or other text editor. You will find a line starting with "Exec=" and then a command. Copy that command... and run it in the terminal first in Gnome and then in XFCE. Paste the outputs here.

In case someone else faces a similar problem, could you please say where the problem was and how you solved it?

Hey Shane
I am able to run the Watchtower CD and view contents for my study that way.
Although it is installed on my hard drive and reads OK in Gnome it does not read from the hard drive in XFCE.
I have tried to reinstall it again in wine but XFCE is not having it.
As i can run and read the contents of the CD this way i am happy to continue.
I have been using Mint for about a year and am not missing windows at all.
The community on here are great and its Guys like you with superior knowledge that makes it all worth it.
Thanks again for all your help.
Have a great weekend.
