Hi,
Can anybody explain to me what the following messages mean and how to fix the problem?
Info:
I have installed Kubuntu desktop on Linux Mint Bea.

Neither the Gnome desktop nor the Kde one will start after the splash screen, sometimes. And at times I get an 'OUT OF RANGE' message on the dark screen.

Starting in Rescue mode I get a message like :
Warning, Cannot load black listed ipv6.
In rescue mode I can start the system by typing either the KDM or GDM command.

Once I get the KDE desktop working, this warning message shows up but I can ignore it and go on with no other problems :
INTERNAL ERROR. Failed to initialize HAL.

I would like to stress the fact that this is an experimental installation, in order to see the possibilities of adding KDE or the Kubuntu desktop to BEA and see the associated problems that may appear.

That usually means that your graphics card is trying to display a video mode which is too high for your screen, e.g. you try to display 1600x1200 at 85 Hz which your card might support but the screen can only handle 1280x1024 at 75 Hz at maximum. Instead of destroying itself by trying to display something it cannot handle your screen is switching off and instead shows this warning message. You probably have to reconfigure your X.org environment again? Someone please correct me but I think the correct command is:

ipv6 is the driver for TCP/IP version 6 and related to networking. I don't think that this has anything to do with the errors you experience.

Sounds to me like your GUI is misconfigured. Can you try the command above please? Also, could you please take a look if this file exists on your system: /var/log/Xorg.0.log ... And, if it exists, could you please post the contents here?

That might be normal sort of, because you are in "rescue mode" it is possible that certain system services were not properly activated. The error message probably will not appear once you start your system normally again.

Hello scorp123 and friedtofu,
Thanks to both of you. Since I had more problems (ISP down) and also tried to install another Linux distro on my test disk, I had to format it and re-installed Linux Mint Bea today.
Well, this solved my problems.

I am back on line now, hopefully with no problems on the part of the ISP.

Just a quick note about ipv6. It was blacklisted in Bea to make the use of ipv4 faster. Nothing to worry about that warning so.

It's nice to know that. Thanks.
Yesterday I installed another distro on my test disk (it's supposed to be one of those wonder distros).
Well, believe me! I got so annoyed with it (configure this and configure that), that I wiped the thing right off the disk!

Bea is a beauty, I'm hooked on it. And surely, Bea has been installed on my main disc together with Widows 2K.
