Confirm delete sound?

Postby LindseyD. on Fri Apr 02, 2010 5:06 am

I'm used to hearing a warning sound when I hit Shift-Delete, but it isn't happening in Mint8.

Is this normal? First time I've used KDE4, so I don't know if it's a bug or a feature. If it's normal, then is there a way to get KDE to play a sound? I can't find anything in the system sounds settings, but they may call it by some term I'm not familiar with.

It's a bug. Basically the sound server gets shutdown before the sound can play.

Okay, thanks for this. Believe it or not, it puts my mind at ease.

PS (and maybe OT): I notice some notification sounds aren't working either. Same bug?

No, but sound themes were a little neglected in this release so options are rather limited. Which ones don't work and which theme is set? Have you tried installing the ubuntu theme?
Code: Select all
apt install ubuntu-sounds

I didn't even know there were sound themes :-) I just use the defaults, and if I don't like one, I pick another from /usr/share/sounds.

Kget for one, which is a problem because I'm on dialup and I really need to know when a download's finished.

Haven't tried K3B yet but--Nerts! I just opened K3B and it's telling me I don't have a burner. Sigh! More googling.

But I did test the default "success" notification and it played, but died before it finished.
Have you tried installing the ubuntu theme?

Nope. Would it apply to KDE apps like Kget?

Sorry, scratch that last, I forgot you were running KDE. Re. kget, some apps have their own settings for notifications instead of using the KDE systemwide notifications settings, kget may be one but not running KDE at mo so can't check.

Kget does it both ways--within the app itself, and through System Settings. If I ever get this CDrom not mounting issue solved, I may research the system notification sounds bug.

Thanks for your replies.
