well what you do is download the files on another computer that is connected to the net and then transfer them via cd or a usb thumb drive.
I suspect you are wanting to install extra software or updates for your mint system. this can be a slow and painful process.
so you need to find out the name of the deb package you need (and its dependencies) download them and then transfer then to your own computer, double click on it and hay presto it installs.
eg the fire fox deb file is:
mozilla-firefox_2.0.0.5+1-0ubuntu1_all.deb

Now where was i going? Oh yes, crazy!
In the first step, yes. Obviously. Or where else would you get the packages from?allforcarrie wrote: it looks like you need linux w/ internet to make a apt on cd.
Nope. Once you got the CD you can install stuff from it e.g. on PC's that don't have Internet ...allforcarrie wrote: kind of paradoxal.
So it could work like this: You call a friend back home and tell him to fill a CD with all the goodies (obviously he should have an Ubuntu or Linux Mint installation for that). He fills the CD with the help of "AptonCD" and then sends the CD or DVD to you ...
You then have a CD full of stuff that you can install stuff from ... regardless where you are with your PC.
Quote from the "Apt on CD" web site:
With APTonCD you will can...
Backup
- Backup all downloaded packages (via apt-get, aptitude and synaptic) to restore later.
- Take with you all your favorite packages, in a removable repository where you can install then all on anytime, anytime.
- Get an entire repository, or a specifc section. Simply point-and-click, and in few time you'll have an CD(s) or DVD(s) with entire main, restricted, universe, multiverse, contrib, etc.
- Share your packages with your friends without Internet conection. Also, send a meta-package for him to install the same set of packages that you have.
