Dell and Google to put pressure on manufacturers!

Post by clem »

It was predictable and it's starting to happen: Dell and other major actors will soon start to put pressure on manufacturers to get better drivers for Linux.

Dell on better ATI drivers:

Google on open-source ATI/Nvidia drivers:

In the meantime I'm buying a computer and I chose Dell and Intel (no ATI, no Nvidia and no AMD because of their link with ATI and the involvment of Intel in various open-source projects). A lot of people put pressure on these manufacturers, now is the time that industry leaders do the same.

This is good news indeed, this is the kind of pressure that is needed to start moving linux desktop to the forefront. I will be interesting to see if any of the big name companies will drop some cash on open source projects to further help in the development process.

This is EXACTLY what linux users everywhere needed!

I myself am dual booting specifically because drivers for audiophile grade sound cards are simply non-existent! I just hope that the two 800 lb gorillas that are suddenly in our corner can remember to put pressure on ALL the manufacturers!
