[solved] Pidgin won't leave the LXDE menu!

Postby jdizzle on Fri Apr 23, 2010 7:27 pm

Hey everybody. Up and running some time with the new Mint LXDE CE. One word: awesome.

Ran into my first glitch today. I uninstalled Pidgin via synaptic along with pidgin-data, cleaned up some left-over packages with ubuntu-tweak and bleachbit. I use amsn and gyachi for their cam support and did not see the need for pidgin.

However, the pidgin menu entry in the lxde menu in the lower left still shows up under the Internet sub-menu.

All in all, I don't know much about LXDE menu, which hasn't been a problem because everything just shows up or goes away when an app is installed or uninstalled. GOOD WORK GEEKS! THANK YOU! I've dug around usr/share/applications and nothing there for Pidgin. I have added a .desktop there for transset and no problem so I do have a rough idea what is going on with the menu, but I'm obviously missing something.

Where is the menu getting the idea that pidgin should be there???

I just want Pidgin to go away and to know more about the menu for the future.

Thanks in advance! Awesome edition of the best distro around. Just hooked up two buddies with a dual boot (Main Edition) and may have turned a "geek squader" at best buy into a linux mint geek...just trying to do my part.

P.S. I use "geek" with the utmost affection.

Sorry for no explanation.

Found the info I needed in ~/.cache/menus

It's a file with a big long name of a bunch of letters and numbers.

At the top of the text file there is a list of different paths. I checked out all of them. One of them had a Pidgin icon looking at me. I deleted it and no more Pidgin in my LXDE menu.

Thanks Linux Mint LXDE! Great Distro!
