I Want To Uninstall Firefox - BUT....

Postby DasFox on Mon May 10, 2010 3:42 am

I want to uninstall firefox but then you have to install iceape-browser and seamonkey-browser.

This is silly, I've never seen anything like this, uninstall one thing and you have to take an install of other apps... :(

I am using Chromium so I have a browser. How can I uninstall FF and not install iceape-browser and seamonkey-browser?

THANKS

In the control file for the chromium-browser package it probably doesn't include the line "Provides=x-www-browser". I'll look into it later and I might put up either a patched version of chromium-browser or a dummy package that resolves the dependency.

Out of curiosity, after reading the first post, I uninstalled firefox to see what would happen. I opened Synaptic and marked Firefox for complete removal. The only other thing it did when I clicked on "apply" was it also removed a java plugin, but that was it. It didn't want to install anything else, other browser or otherwise.

So basically, removing Firefox worked as expected -- I was unable to replicate the OP's problem. Either Kendall fixed it already, or there's something else going on with the OP's computer, I guess?

Nope, definitely haven't fixed it yet. Just pulled the source package for chromium-browser a few minutes ago and I haven't quite torn it apart just yet. Did Synaptic install anything while uninstalling Firefox?

Well I didn't try this because I didn't want iceape-browser and seamonkey-browser installed.

All I can tell you is when you first install the LXDE CE and you want to uninstall FF, it says it's going to install these two, so all I can say is that if it's saying it was going to do this I figured it was, after all why then would I be getting such a message, or how did something like this even happen in the first place to give this message to make you feel like this is going to happen?

So I didn't mess with it...
