Installing AntiVirus In Mint (4A-Virus-HowTo)

This is my first tutorial :)
I hope I will succeed at this howto

With this howto document, i will try to show u how to install a anti-virus program in Mint. As a newbie i am in Linux, this is first time working on a tutorial . It is open debate whether linux needs a security program such as antivirus, firewall or any other program or not , but we should know how to install in case we need. With this security programs designed for Linux, we can scan and defend our Windows OS as well as any other computer in our network.
The Choice Is Yours :)

Programs
ClamAV
F-Prot
Avast
Eset NOD 32



ClamAV With ClamTk GUI

To install the basic scanner
Open Terminal and Type:

sudo aptitude install clamav clamav-daemon clamav-freshclam
This will complete the basic scanner installation.

To add GTK frontend for the Clam AntiVirus scanner to use ClamAV with Gui download and open with GDebi Package Installer: This is .deb file. so, easy to install.

If you have a problem installing with GDebi then you can use this command to install file mentioned above.

sudo dpkg -i clamtk_4.23-1_all.deb
After these , You will see ClamAv in Applications--->Accessories--->Virus Scanner. With the user interface you can use easly.


F-Prot With XFPROT GUI

To Prepare Your system installation , Type in Terminal :

sudo apt-get install build-essential libgtk2.0-dev checkinstall
After these packages installation finished you need to downloaf F-port antivirus for linux workstations package from
Main Source

copy this file ./home directory. extract with Right Click "Extract Here" then type in terminal :

cd f-prot
sudo ./install-f-prot.pl
There will be some questions about installation way, folder etc. choice how you want.

Now Time to Install Gui for Fprot

Like Clamav gui, here is a deb file you can install directly. After completion of this deb file. You will see XFPROT in Application List.



ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Linux Desktop

First Download Installation Package of NOD 32 AniVir

ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Linux Desktop
32-bit Beta (23.21 MB)

64-bit Beta (23.37 MB)

After downloaded the file, Open Terminal in its directory and Type :

chmod +x ueav.i386.linux
 ./ueav.i386.linux
These commands will starts installation interface for you like in Windows. then You will install ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.
Note : During the installation do not close terminal. After installation process completed. You can close terminal in which you started installation. Your App will wait you in app list.


avast! Linux Home Edition

You can download and install avast .deb file from Avast server easy.

Hi! I wouldn't suggest avast; I recommand you to use kaspersky. I found a version that it's better then many programs kaspersky v7 I tested 10 too but it didn't convince me
