Ubuntu Software-Center

Is it possible/safe to access the Ubuntu Software-Center in Mint Linux 8. On my other laptop with Ubuntu 10.4 the menu property for the software-center is /usr/bin/software-center which doesn't exist on my Mint system. TIA.

You can use the Ubuntu Software Center in Linux Mint if you wanted to, by typing the following in a terminal:

sudo apt-get install software-center

Just a word of caution, that may bring in a whole load of dependencies. The Ubuntu software center wasn't made for Mint, so to be honest, I wouldn't recommend installing it; if you want certain packages not found in Mint's own Software Manager, look through Synaptic Package Manager to find it.

Well, I'm stubborn and I really liked Software Center's sub-categories in science, so I tried it anyways...

No dice

It installed, but it refused to run:

module = __import__(distro_id, globals(), locals(), [], -1)
ImportError: No module named LinuxMint

Oh Well.
