ATI Radeon Mobility X1600 - SAMSUNG TV

Post by Godfather8850 »

Hello All!!.

I have a laptop with a ATI Radeon Mobility X1600 graphics card. I am new to Linux and before that I was connecting my laptop to my TV trough VGA in order to watch movies. Now that I am using Linux Mint 9 the connection with my TV is not possible. It gives an unusable 'waving/shivering' screen no matter the resolution I am choosing (the refresh rate cannot be changed).

I have tried to install the last ATI Catalyst which partially solves the problem but the compiz stops working and the boot up screen changes. I know It is not a problem of the TV since when the laptop was connected to the TV with another operating system it had immediately good results. My guess is that it is a problem of the ATI driver.

Please help me since I really love Linux Mint!! :)

Best,
Stan

  • If ubuntu forums don't have a solution, as it is a driver issue, there may be no good enough work-around..
But it is always worth the effort of looking, just to see if there are any clues available..

The /etc/X11/xorg.conf settings you create can always override the default auto configuration provided by ubuntu's auto-detect xserver settings, for the monitor/screen device..
