Midnight Commander - where?

Post by kenetics »

Installed Midnight Commander from repo. It shows as installed but I can't find it anywhere. Where did it go?

Open Terminal and type mc.

Ah, there it is. Thanks.
I guess it's not integrated with Gnome.

The GNOME version of 'mc' was called 'gmc' ... and it was the precursor to the nautilus file manager which is now the standard file manager in GNOME. I don't see 'gmc' in the repos anymore, I think it was abandoned in favour of 'nautilus'.

RedHat.com still has its manual and a screenshot online:

As you can see the current nautilus looks much nicer :wink:

There is a program called Gnome Commander which is pretty close to MC but with a much nicer UI.

You can get it via synaptic.

here's a screenshot:

How do you get it to run?

//edit//

Ok. Know how to launch it. Can you replace Nautilas with it, or is it just in addition to?
