boot message

Post by Ramint »

Hello everybody,
I'm getting a strange message during boot ( livecd, or installed) here is the message:
[ 54.763647] Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 2d CPU 0.
[ 54.763781] Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled?
[ 54.763751] Dazed and confused, but trying to continue

does any one know what does that mean?

after this message Linux will take about 2 min to start, and the performance are soooo slow, and when I shutdown it never does.

pc spec and old p4 with 512ram 2 hdd 80gig each, graphic card ati 9600e.

thank you for your time.

Is it a notebook? Do you have any power management schemes enabled?

A colleague of mine has the very same message on his brand new Intel Core 2 Duo laptop with Gentoo Linux. Seems this is related to a minor problem with too new hardware e.g. the Linux kernel doesn't support it fully yet. I guess this will be soon fixed with a newer kernel release.

Well in fact no, it's the first generation of P4.

and the weirdest thing is that I have Linux mint running on my new server with a raid controler, dual display, and every thing is working smoothly and as it should, no problem at all.

that's what's daziling me.[/quote]
