gnome v mint debian gnome

What gives??

I ran the Mint Debian live dvd on one of my desktop computers for several hours on Monday without a single hitch and again today with no issues. Everything worked fine and was fast and very responsive. Today I downloaded the Mint 9 gnome dvd iso. It ran on the same desktop for maybe 20 seconds and froze up solid. No keyboard or mouse response. I had to manually turn off the computer then restarted it with the same freeze up.

Is there that much difference between the two OS's that one works but the other won't. Or is it my graphics card (see below)??.

If it is the graphics card would it also freeze up with say XFCE, LXDE, or other??

By the way: Mint 9 KDE runs on this machine with no problems whatsoever..

Code: Select all
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

If it's some graphic driver thing that could be resolved with an update you could try updating from the command line and then booting to the desktop. Just guessing.

Tried that.

I installed on a spare hard drive then update and did a dist-upgrade from the cl. After reboot it still freezes..

I just posted this response from the live dvd mint debian on the machine in question..
