SOLVED hp 1210psc problems

Postby Bari on Thu Sep 23, 2010 4:23 pm

I though thing were going to well. The only thing I can't seem to get to work is the scanner part of the above printer scanner. There is no option in hardware for scanner. The printer has been detected and works fine. The simple scan programme is unable to detect a scanner also gimp can't find it, in fact it doesn't even put an entry in the File-Create menu. I'm a bit lost as what to do next any suggestions pse.

Bari:
Thanks for the heads-up on this. I have an HP 1410PSC all-in-one and hadn't tried out the scanner function since installing LMDE, but I find that this also doesn't seem to be supported in LMDE, although it works fine in LM9. As with yours, the printer works fine in LMDE under CUPS, but the scanner just isn't recognised at all, either by the Simple Scan or Xsane programs.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to get LMDE to see the scanner function of these all-in-one devices and an explanation of why it's OK in Ubuntu-based Mint.

Hi, Yes that's exactly what I'm getting. I have had no problems in other versions. I have tried installing xsane and uninstalling simple scan but there is no recognition of the scanner at all.

Just a thought, is there a scanner or similar group that you need to be a member of ?

There is a scanner group, but I just checked, and I'm already a member of it, so I'm afraid that this doesn't seem to be the cause. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Hi,
same problem with my HP1350 psc...worked fine since LM7-8-9 and all versions of Ubuntu. I have had no problems in other versions. I have tried installing xsane and uninstalling simple scan but there is no recognition of the scanner at all.
Regards to u all

Cracked it. I feel really chuffed as its the first time I have managed to solve something on my own. After reading several (very old) forum posts about this printer worked out that I should try installing libsane-hpaio and hplip-gui. Found them in the package manager, hplip-gui adds quite a few extra bits and bobs but took the plunge and installed them and now both simple scan and gimp can scan. However while writing this I had a sudden thought, can I still print the answer was NO! rats. However on checking the printer config I found it was disabled so clicked on enable and now everything works as it should. Hope this helps.

Well done, Bari

I immediately installed the two programs you listed, and certainly got further than before, in that instead of saying that it couldn't find any scanners, Xsane displayed its two panels, and when I pressed the "Scan" button it fired up my webcam (yes, webcam), and I got a lovely colour negative image of me staring at my PC screen. Although I've always wondered what I would look like with blue skin, this was not exactly what I was expecting. Same thing with Simple Scanner program.

When I unplug my webcam, then I get an error message saying it couldn't locate my scanner, with both programs. At this point I'll drop out of this thread, since it's related to HP 1210s, and mine is an HP 1410, and my problem is definitely not solved!

I'll start a new thread.

That's different, but nearly there, have you tried plugging the printer into the usb socket that the camera was in?

I tried that but got the same results - no scanner found. It doesn't matter which USB socket I try, it just doesn't pick up my HP PSC1410.
