Mine is a CamMaestro SXVGA webcam Model EDP 21331 - makers Vivanco say not compatible with Linux.

lsusb shows it as: ID 0c845:628f Microdia

I tried suse@susebox:~> caminfo (quoted from the last screenshot in the above URI) but it is not recognised as a command.

The driver identified there looks very specific for the HP camera - how should I find one for mine please?

This is a funny one. If I search for

I get about a dozen hits for perfume resellers and nothing else! :):)

is the name of the computer that's used, like yours probably is something like "theo@theo-desktop"
Looking at the manufacturers site I see that DX 9.1 or higher is needed - don't understand why, but that's Windows alright
If you google for "vivanco webcam Linux" there are some hits in german and if you read german and go through that you might (just might) find something
