Hi everyone,

I'm new to linux and I must say I'm in love with this distribution.

My laptop does have 4GB of ram installed and, since LMDE is 32 bit only, I tought it would be nice to compile a new kernel with the high memory support to use it all.

Now I had this idea:

I was wondering if I could install the Liquorix kernel, save the .config, download a new vanilla one ie: 2.6.35-5 from kernel.org, enable the highmem 64GB in it, build and install it.

Would that make sense ?

Gnomikian, you could simply add the debian experimental repository to your sources list and download the linux bigmem from that repository via synaptic.
This is what I am running now (2.6.35-trunk-686-bigmem) allowing me to utilize total system memory-RAM @ 4048 MiB.

Go to Synaptic>Settings>Repositories>Third-Party Software, and +Add...

deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ experimental main contrib non-free

reload synaptic, select the origin tab and click on experimental/main(ftp.debian.org) and add...,

linux-base
linux-headers-2.6.35-trunk-686 (Header files for Linux 2.6.35-trunk-686-bigmem
linux-image-2.6.35-trunk-686(Linux 2.6.35 for PCs with 4GB+ RAM

At least you need the zen patches if the liquorix kernel has some appeal to you. The actual 2.6.35-zen2 patch series has to be applied onto the first stable 2.6.35 release, not onto the lastest 2.6.35.x. It contains itself all patches of the 2.6.35.4 release.

Great, everything is fine, got my full 4GB on my Thinkpad :)

Also changed repos to sid and dist-upgraded

Best distro I had used so far... :D

Hi there,

I've found a Liquorix build with PAE enabled:

It's a bit outdated, but it works fine with my ThinkPad @ 6GB RAM
