Mint Debian, wireless issues on MSI CX600

Post by pmccrackan »

Hi, my wireless is not picking up any access points. If anyone could point me in the right direction in getting this solved I would greatly appreciate it.
The install has all updates applied.
Looks to me as though there is some kind of mismatch between the device and the driver installed, the device shows as RT3090, but in WLAN0 it shows as RT2860?

Here is my mintwifi output:

Check to see whether or not you have the "wireless-tools" and "firmware-ralink" packages installed already. Install them if you don't.

Could you post the output of the following commands:

Code: Select all

lsmod
lspci -v

http://wiki.debian.org/rt2860sta

I'd like you to try the following:

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe -r rt3090sta
sudo modprobe rt2860sta
sudo iwlist scan
If the last command doesn't give you anything, try disabling security on your wireless network (i.e. temporarily disable WEP/WPA if you're using either one of them), and then run the last command again.

If all fails...you may want to compile a Ralink driver from source. http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=2

Thanks for help.
Fix was :
Download driver from the suggested web site.
Compiled, (make install etc)
Reboot.
Problem solved.
Wireless now all good.

Cheers to all!

I have the exact problem you had, I downloaded the .zip file but have no idea how to compile it lol. I'm so used to apt-get and synaptic that I barely use terminal for compiling unpacking or installing.

Can you explain me how you did it?

There's a README in the tarball you download from Ralink that explains how to compile and install the driver. See the posts above.
