I love the first variation that you posted scorp123, Image its brilliant. Nice colors too. The Tux one is way to busy. I think you should Keep it smooth and easy...

I'm curious to see what you come up with, great job so far.

New wallpaper variation

Postby niallabrown on Wed Jan 03, 2007 10:43 pm

Here is a new try (keep going with that variation I like it) on the old design with better colors and some other changes. I'm feelin the mint... Don't mean to toot my own horn, but this is some sexy paper. Has the project decided on a final logo?:
Image

Here is a larger size (in widescreen) I made an error exporting it. its not the right size might show up a little soft. Image

And the SVG file http://www.deafblindresources.org/imagestorage/backtgroundblue.svg

If you want to play with the colors feel free, but I couldn't get what I liked out of the Blusish greens. I think it might be best to stick to SVG so that various monitor sizes can be accommodated.

Everyone let me know what your thinking...

This is really nice too. I don't know which one I like best between this one and scorp123's first variation.

Believe it or not, but I really really like this one  When I saw your new version I was instantly thinking of a Twinings Mint Tea I was trying the other day and how much I enjoyed the minty flavour 8)

So it's safe to say that the associations do "click" here  Now xxx? Where is that mint tea?? After staring at that wallpaper I really need another cup

Heck yes... So what do you say, primary wallpaper quality? I'm pushing for the primary so I can keep going if there are still hesitations...

I'd try adding some textures ... e.g. super-impose this new SVG over something else, e.g. as I did in my first example. Or: What happens if you super-impose two of your SVG's over each other? I'd bet we would get some nice 3D-like effekt ... surely worth trying out 8)

Good thought :D , I'm going to give that a shot. I definitely want it all vector though so we can export a few sizes for windscreen and full.

I really need a response to what is the current logo. I know there is a policy about keeping a constant image.

Final?

Postby niallabrown on Thu Jan 04, 2007 6:45 pm

I think this is the final version. I tried the texture idea but things just got to messy.

I made the last little tweaks and added a logo. Feedback is still welcome if there are any problems. I need some final OK's or problems so I know if I should start exporting for different resolutions.

Hmmm ... I don't really like the logo. Its lower right part is almost too dark in my humble opinion. And why the letters "Linux Mint" all over the logo again when there is the large version just next to it? You should have used the *.PNG file which is visible here in the forums, e.g. upper left corner on this very web page. It's this logo I always "misused" :D

I am working on some of my wacky ideas ... I'll post some of it in a couple of minutes. Stay tuned 8)

cant wait scorp! Any idea how I would go about getting the official logo? I know the project wants to ensure that the primary logo is always used. Is there a person who takes overall responsibility for the Linux mint project?

The logo on the upper left of this web page is the "official" LinuxMint logo as far as I know.

OKidoki ... my baby-daughter has been a very nice little baby-girl and has slept for hours, mommy is on a "clean-the-house" crusade and so I have some time now to post some stuff I did.

Quiz:

What do you get if you superimpose this:
Image

And this:
Image

Over this:
Image
(Hi-res here: http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o217 ... s_1600.png )

... and what if you added some generous levels of transparency to each layer, so that they just shine through? What do you get then?

Answer: This!

Addition: I borrowed that picture "subspace folds" from here (credit where credit is due):

All their pictures are released under the "Creative Commons Share Alike License" (read here) so I suppose it is legal to use their material? They have lots more of fascinating images there ...

Also from the same gallery I mentioned above comes this picture:

I am currently experimenting with this one, e.g. some sort of "dark Mint" wallpaper for people who prefer darker colors on their desktop backgrounds. But even so this one looks extremely hot 8)

Taadaa! Here it is. Looks more like a pot of nuked spinach floating in space than a cup of mint

Image

PhotoBucket reduced the size because the picture is 1.2 MB ... :? But if you could PM me your e-mail address I would send all the PNG's and SVG's to you or if you know a better way of hosting such files I would put the files there ...

Hey scorp, I'm running into problems. Your work looks good, but because your using raster graphics I'm getting blurring on my 20' widescreen and the papers are completely unusable on my 24'. I think the primary paper has to be all vector so that I can accommodate any screen size, epically since mac is rumored to be launching a 50' display soon. It might seem like a small thing but a lot of my graphic arts friends are starting to gravitate towards Linux and epically this distro and they often have hefty monitors. I propose that if the community is in agreeable that the original SVG only paper be used and the forks be made available in the wallpaper directory for those who can view them properly. Also that a directory of any SVG papers included be added to the user directory so that people can make a paper for their own screen size if they have an odd resolution.

I'm even wondering if a logo would get bent out of shape on a 50' monitor if its not vector.
