Video of novices guide to customizing the menu panel

Postby ukbrian on Tue Sep 28, 2010 10:58 am

If you want to change your menu from the default http://lin.me.uk/mint/tutorials/mint-menu/menu-mint-1.png
to this http://lin.me.uk/mint/tutorials/mint-menu/menu-mint-2.png
Then I have made a short video of customizing the menu panel to your own tastes.
If you want this checkout the Big Red video
Image

If you download it rather than streaming the video it's much kinder to my bandwidth and you can watch/share the video multiple times.
download .zip

Streaming
http://lin.me.uk//mint/tutorials/mint-menu/menu-mint.wmv

Please give me some feedback good or bad
whether these videos are of any use to newcomers or novices,
I find that children or folk like me that can't handle a manual(double Dutch to me) benefit enormously from videos.

All feedback good or bad and suggestions for other video are very welcome :D

Hi rufong Thanks for the feedback :D
Sorry I took so long but I'm a slow old bu**er, there's a video now at http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=56793&p=325298#p325298

If you're helping a friend you might have a look at http://teamviewer.com/index.aspx
It's the best free Remote access app I have come across
TeamViewer connects to any PC or server around the world within a few seconds. You can remote control your partner's PC as if you were sitting right in front of it. Find out why more than 100 million users trust TeamViewer!

I was thinking of doing a video of using gparted the partitioning manager on Virtualbox
so folk can practice creating and resizing partitions on a virtual machine before they try the real thing on a HDD.

Based on your screenshot, you've got WINE installed in there. Is that the latest wine version?

Wine version found on debian repos are too old. They didn't even upload the 2nd stable version of wine. They're still using the old one.
How about yours?

My version of Wine is 1.01-3+b1
I just use it for running the free windows version of Treepad as the Linux version is no longer supported, it's where I jot down all my user names/passwords and all the other things I can never remember.

Thanks, Brian.
I thought your video was clear, easy-to-understand, and very informative.
Am eagerly awaiting the sequel...
