Error while installing Linux from harddisk

Installing from a hard disk is not supported. You may, or more likely may not, succeed.
Is your computer old?
Sounds like it's rather old and you put grub to far "into" the disk - probably the 8 GB limit (or 1024 limit)

It's old (to be a computer :)) 256 MB is a problem - it is barely possible to boot the live cd with that
You could create a boot partition to help a bit
Error 20: Select cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS
This indicates you are to "far into" the disk, unless it's an erroneous error :shock:
