Flattery from China

Post by waldo »

Distrowatch today features the alpha test of a Chinese distro that uses many of the features from Mint.

Here are some good screen shots. I don't understand Chinese at all, but it is really nice looking . . .

Sweet Minty wallpaper. Clem could borrow that and at least offer it as an option. I don't think they'd mind. :D

Use Chrome or Chromium, they will translate for you. Looks like a good Mint spin. Uses all the usual Mint Tools. Looks like their logo even pays homage to Mint. I like the dock in the screenshots. Now I'm inspired. I've always been a panel-guy, but I may have to give cairo-dock a whirl.

No need to use Chrome/Chromium just to get a rough translation.

So, it's just Mint in Chinese ?

They say they wanted to use the vertical space at is best and that the solution was to use the panel to the max. I would say that a better solution would be to put it on the side (left/right) instead of top/bottom. Wide screens are nice to watch videos or to open two documents side by side, but maximizing the browser on a wide screen makes it difficult to read because the text spreads over the whole width of the screen: it is way easier to read short lines with frequent line breaks than reading loooong lines.

Edit: with functions like Exposé or Scale, the panels/taskbars could be set obsolete.
