It seems that the mint installer for the latest debian mint release would install to a usb drive. Is that correct. I have an old laptop without a hard drive and am off to the shops to buy an 8GB or 16GB usb flash drive.
If I set the bios o boot off usb after installing debian mint from the iso will I experience an problems?

Re: Mint Debian - USB
it is suppose to yes, but I am trying to figure out how, because if I click usb,it kicks be out, dont know why
Re: Mint Debian - USB
Yeah I have tried but I cannot get mint to go off a usb. Maybe mint could borrow a good idea from fedora and have an automated usb/pendrive install process http://www.pendrivelinux.com/install-fe ... g-windows/ and the actual link of packages https://fedorahosted.org/releases/l/i/liveusb-creator/.
Just a thought. Ubuntu seems to have a similar concept http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download but it doesn't mention persistence. And pendrivelinux.com has a range of linux installs to usb as persistent installs, it has the latest ubuntu and mint 9 http://www.pendrivelinux.com/category/n ... tutorials/

Re: Mint Debian - USB
Most of the older motherboard BIOS system do not have the capability to boot USB first on the Boot Priority.
The newer ones will, and these USB stick installations will boot only on them .

Re: Mint Debian - USB
I'm running mint debian that I ran first as live off usb and then installed from same usb and it's been flawless so far.
I used unetbootin to install to usb.

Re: Mint Debian - USB
Does that offer persistence to save your files and update as you work?
Re: Mint Debian - USB
To be honest I haven't tried. I only used usb to install or run live without saving anything. I read that you can't save with unetbootin usb but maybe thats changed.
Re: Mint Debian - USB
Make a regular installation to the USB stick. I installed a second system from CD to USB using the text installer (via grub menu) with no issues so far. Then you can install grub to the USB-Stick.flebber wrote:Does that offer persistence to save your files and update as you work?
The graphical live installer will inevitably fail while trying to install grub to your first HD. But I'm unsure if it's the same without a HD. All the same, it's safe to use the text installer.
