Hi,
openshot looks good, thanx for notice :)
BTW, do you know anybody any cool sw for creating CD/DVD kiosks, presentations, encyklopedias like and similar stuff ?
For Windows I have used one cool tool Neobook (http://www.neosoftware.com).
It's possible to create CD presentations with many cool features, even custom scripts by something like live/lua (?) scripts, screensavers etc. But it's for win os only :x
Thanx in advance for cool tips 8)
P.S. I am told it's possible to do by python or similar lang. :D Okay but I don't feel like such programming guru so I'd rather appreciate any GUI tool like Neobook

See THIS thread for several suggestions re: making a CD/DVD slide-show. I have not tried to do this, so I do not know about the script options.

Thanx for tip but that thread is just about movie and slideshow etc. ;-)
But what I mean is like if I'd give you a question: how would you make an interactive CD presentation like some encyclopedias sold on the market? Do u know what I mean?
Standalone interactive presentation which are ran, showing any content, prompting for user selection, computing users data (like used in quizzes) etc. etc. :)

From the FAQ page for Neobook
NeoBook is designed to create Windows-based applications. Unfortunately, Windows applications are not normally compatible with the Macintosh or Linux. However, we've had several customers report good results running NeoBook apps on Mac and Linux systems using software-based emulators like Crossover and Wine. Also many newer Macs now use the same Intel processors as Windows PCs and can actually be configured to run Windows along side the Mac operating system.

So, if you already have Neobook you may be able to use what you are already familiar with.

Also, check these applications from the Package Manager: advi, pyntor
I do not know if they will do all that you want.

The mint team should really consider including this as theyre answer to ubuntus useless "pitivi". Its got lots of effects, its userfriendly and stable. Kind if an enhanced windows movie maker for linux and just what regular users look for when theyre editing youtube videos etc.

The developer specifically developed it for Ubuntu, so I was surprised to find it available in the LMDE repositories. However, it is at version 1.1.3. On the Openshot web site there is a build wizard, so it would seem possible to get the latest version if you are willing to compile.

Greetings everyone! I am the developer of OpenShot, and I would love to see it included as the default video editor in Mint. Canonical is very unlikely to ever choose OpenShot as their default video editor, because we do not use Gstreamer. Thus, I think Mint would have a built-in advantage of having OpenShot vs PiTiVi. Also, OpenShot is included in both the Debian and Ubuntu repositories, and is always kept up to date, due to the fact I am also the Debian maintainer.

If anyone is interested, I just posted some statistics on the "most used" Linux video editor: http://www.openshotvideo.com/2010/10/statistics-showdown-best-linux-video.html. Anyway, back to my point. Linux Mint has my full support and the full support of OpenShot, should you choose our project as the default video editor. We are big fans of Linux Mint, and would love to be your default video editor. :D

Thanks!

Hey Jonathan,

I completely agree! OpenShot could be Linux Mint's analogy of Movie Maker for Windows. I think it would be a good incentive for someone to choose Mint.

I personally LOVE OpenShot. It does nearly everything that I've wanted in a Linux video editor for years(basically what PiTiVi has failed at). I also believe that it's stable enough at this point for general use. It's simply fantastic.

I must say that I love Openshot as well, it's certainly the best video editor I've ever used in Linux. If Clem and co. are still looking for a video editor to include in upcoming Mint releases, for what my endorsement is worth, I'd definitely recommend Openshot! :)

No need to compile; the latest version of Openshot is in the Sid repos. The simplest way is install it from Sid would be to add SId's repo in your sources.list, upgrade Openshot and its dependencies (nothing else), and then revert the changes in your sources.list. Or you could just wait for Openshot to filter down from upstream Sid...but you'll probably have to wait quite a while, given the freeze that Testing is currently in.

I think the developers are a bit slow not recognizing the need for a good video editor. Me and many others use youtube etc to post vids, we edit everything from gamereviews to things we've recorded with our mobile phone. So many use this these days it should come with the OS. About time they get this in linux mint, now when theyre on DVD and everything.

Openshot 1.3.0 has been released. If you are using his PPA added to your software sources in LM 9 and 10 it should be available through Synaptic or apt-get. I would presume the same is true for Julia. For LMDE users the newer version has yet to be added to the repositories. Even in Sid the newest version is 1.2.2.

For all of the new animated title effects we all must still wait. These depend on Blender 2.56. The newest available in the LM 9 repos is 2.49. For LMDE, testing and Sid repos are still at 2.49, also.

I have installed it in LM 9 but not used it yet.

The new Openshot is dazzling! The 3d animated effects are unmatched by any other NL video editor I've used. I don't mean to be rude, but I think we'd be fools not to include it by default with Linux Mint.

It is indeed very good. I've put together a few videos of family stuff and they've come out very well.

The effects are great and the GUI is really easy to navigate. I do suffer from occasional crashes when using the Blender rendered titles but I've yet to diagnose why.

Openshot is up to version 1.3.0-1.1 in the LMDE repositories with Blender at 2.56.1-beta.

I had a small breakage involving some libmlt files not being current. See here for a solution. viewtopic.php?f=141&t=67502&p=408930#p408930

I use OpenShot within LMDE, in order to create animated titles I had to install Blender 2.57, the current stable version, from a package downloaded from the project site. http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/ The latest version in Debian testing is 2.56.1-beta.
See here for a step by step list of how I installed Blender 2.57 in LMDE. http://www.openshotusers.com/forum/view ... 4184#p4189

HERE is an OpenShot created FAQ re: installing Blender 2.57
HERE is the PPA to install a Blender version newer than in the Ubuntu repositories for 10.4, 10.10, and 11.04; or LM 9, 10 and 11. At the moment the official repositories have Blender 2.49 and the PPA has Blender 2.57.
