Looking for a tool to make an install of a current system

Hi,

I am happy with my system on one computer, having gotten it exactly the way I like in terms of setting, programs downloading from repos, configuration files, dropbox, email accounts, preferences and themes. I have applied fixes to broken programs and now, things are in harmony and balance. On this particular machine, all things are working as they should.

I do not want to have to do all that work again and would like to be able to install my system exactly as it is now if there was a hardware failure. The only thing I wouldn't want to be included in this is my other HD containing my storage drive and dropbox folder. Everything from home and root, Id like to include.

What tool can I use to do this?

I find this to be an interesting question because I used to wonder about the same thing and after learning about all of the software solutions I thought about how long it really takes to get my system back if it did fail. From install to update to downloading the various packages I use regularly etc etc takes at most two hours. So, why bother.

I ask, therefore, what is it about your current install that would take so much time to replace from scratch?

as far as Remastersys it only works on Debian with ext3 file system.
