Where are the startup/shutdown screens located?

Postby mastery on Thu Nov 11, 2010 8:05 pm

I want to change the graphics on all the startup and shutdown screens (I'm using Mint 9). I figured out how to change the OS choice screen, under boot/grub. Where are the other screens located before you get to the desktop, and as your shutting down? Those screens have the Linux Mint 9 logo in the middle of the graphic, and I prefer to see something else. Thanks!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I always changed the login screen by "Ubuntu Tweak" app and the backgrounds should/could be in:
/usr/share/backgrounds
Linux/Unix is about freedom, Windows about slavery.

Hi. They are, as Elisa said, in "/usr/share/backgrounds". You can change the background like this:
Code: Select all
gksudo gedit /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults

Edit the second line and put the name of the image you want to use as login background there:

# Use a specific background
/desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename /usr/share/backgrounds/linuxmint/The_Name_Of_Your_Picture.jpg
