Having problems updating to DVD edition, downloaded the Julia 32 bit iso through torrent but updating and sun-java and a few other portions are missing and not able to fetch. I have been trying for about 5 hours now. All other interweb traffic is A-OK! Software Manager is not able to fetch, package manager same problems. Are The Repos down?

This is an example of trying to get Skype:
Change servers from main, problem solved....what a nob me is, peace.
Code: Select all
W: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/pool/import/s/skype/skype_2.1.0.81-1_i386.deb
Could not connect to packages.linuxmint.com:80 (80.86.83.193). - connect (111: Connection refused)

Re: Servers down!
I'm having the same issue today (Isadora). Are the servers indeed down?
Re: Servers down!
I'm a Noob, I just moved to Mint today from Windblows.. I'm having the same problems updating and installing packets.
Guess I picked a bad day to switch..

Try a different server location, or try 'Select best server'

Sometimes it's not easy to go cold turkey. Not sure of your past experience with Linux but it helps to have knowledge prior to switching.RedwingsRed wrote:I'm a Noob, I just moved to Mint today from Windblows.. I'm having the same problems updating and installing packets.

Re: Servers down!
Well I'm also having issues with package servers (Mint 9 Isadora, LXDE edition).
I have had some success experimenting with various mirrors (Preferences / Software Sources / LinuxMint Software tab) and fetching some updates, BUT . . .
My understanding is that, regardless of what mirrors we choose, Update Manager will always try to ALSO reach http://packages.linuxmint.com , which is fixed at "Preferences / Software Sources / Other Software".
I'm getting the following on various occasions during the last 24 hours, and regardless of chosen mirrors:
There's an option to just DISABLE that repo, but I don't think it's a reasonable thing to do.
If by chance I'm doing anything wrong, would someone please educate me accordingly.
Cheers

Edit: just pointed the browser to http://packages.linuxmint.com, which appears as unavailable.

Re: Servers down!
Just posted via Twitter: We had a little bit of downtime on the main repositories. All is fine again. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Re: Servers down!
I've been experimenting with the KDE distros for a few years on and off, I just decided to go ahead and make the switch and not look back and it's been a little frustrating. I am however patient and I love learning new things and I'm having a lot of fun with the challenge.JonM33 wrote:Sometimes it's not easy to go cold turkey. Before when I would try a Linux based OS, I would get confused and frustrated.. then switch back after a day or so... not this time though, I'm in it to win it and I'm not quiting no matter how P.Oed I get.

Re: Servers down!
I don't know whether from the Netherlands I'm redirected to the German servers. I had a lot of trouble lately to reach the site.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Servers down!
I just wonder if they host the ISO files on their web server. Too many requests and a lot of downloading stresses server CPU and memory.
Thanks!

Servers:
* The forums were moved to a new Cloud Server running Debian in 64-bit. Among other advantages, this allows us to “resize” the server and add or remove RAM to it remotely in less than 10 minutes. We’re currently experimenting for 3 days with different amounts of RAM to decide how much to allocate to the server and to reach the perfect balance between performance and cost. The servers were running successfully with 8GB RAM yesterday. They’re running with only 2GB RAM today and they’ll be using 4GB RAM tomorrow.
* The Community Website is now running on its own in our Canadian server in Toronto.
* We lost our development and testing server in London.
* A second Cloud Server was allocated to host our public archive (which was previously in London).
