Couple of Problems Have Appeared...

Post by Carl »

okay over the past week I've notcied a couple of problems have appeared on my LMDE install :?

[SOLVED]
first one is that when launching "Appearance" from the control centre (same as right clicking and then change background) when it does load (rarely) it is really wide and goes past the boundaries of the screen and because of this will usually crash compiz

[UN-SOLVED]
second the update manager doesn't appear to be telling me when updates are available and only showing updates when manually launched

Output of running gnome-appearance-properties

Code: Select all

The program 'gnome-appearance-properties' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 200 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

uhm the problem with the appearance dialog often happens after trying to fix the fonts - iirc it's a topic somewhere in the font-related sticky thread including the solution. that is assuming you did soimething there.

could you possibly point a link to the bit to fix the appearance dialogue?

Removing the ~.gconf/desktop folder and restarting X fixes the problem.
