Network/ethernet/PPPoe Problem

I am a Newbie to Linux. I have tried the new LMDE and love it, except for for one major problem. For some reason I cannot connect to the ethernet Network so I can go online via PPPoe. I am able to connect to ethernet with Linux Mint 9 and 10. Does anyone have any idea why my computer (Gigabyte 880 motherboard and TD-Link switch with Windows XP dual boot) would have a problem connecting to network with Linux Debian?
