Make a liveCD/DVD out of your installed LinuxMint (Ubuntu/Debian) system

Remastersys worked, but....

Postby rahim on Wed Sep 26, 2007 5:38 pm

Hello all,

I just tried Remastersys for the first time. I used it under rather unique circumstances. I installed an Ubuntu 7.04 command line system in VMware from the alternate install CD. Then I installed Ubuntulite packages. Then I installed remastersys. Since it requires a live CD to create the remaster, I mounted a Xubuntu 7.04 live CD image I had, and sure enough, it created a nice tidy ~ 340MB live CD that actually works. But....

What's the username and password of my remaster? I used the "dist" option. I tried my previous username, I tried "ubuntu", "kubuntu" "ubiquity", everything I could think of. Aside from that, Remastersys is great! Thanks for the help!

The default autologin username is "ubuntu". It is possible that your lite version is missing something at the moment.

I am having similar problems, both on Ubuntu 7.04 and Celena 3.1 versions. When I boot the CD (that I have created from custombackup.iso), the install icon eventually fails with a dialog of:
Code: Select all
Failed to run /usr/lib/ubiquity/bin/ubiquity 'gtkui' as root. Wrong Password

I tried root password, first user password, and ubuntu. I can get around it however, by logging out, and logging back in as my first user (admin) and running Install from the menus. It then works fine.

During the install I get a dialog about Grub:
Code: Select all
The Grub package failed to install into /target/. Installing Grub as a boot loader is a required step. The install problem might be unrelated to Grub however, so continuing the install might be possible.

I seem to get this every time I boot/install the CD, but it has always continued on and custombackup.iso will boot properly.

I made a couple of LiveDVDs. When I tried to install them (to see if they would work) it would ask for a password. Nothing would work. dragonwings recommended having my computer to do a auto login. That seems to work. When I clicked on install it didn't ask for a password. I didn't go ahead with the install. I just wanted to see if if would ask for the password. I'm using Mint 3.0 Cassandra with GNOME desktop.

On 9/13/07 I had made a backup of Cassadra. The DVD boots up alright. Since I was going to install Celena. On 10/08/07, thought that I'd install the backup. Every thing went alright. It asked for my password but, took my user name password. When it got done doing the install. I got an error message about Grub. I didn't think till I rebooted to make a note of it. When it rebooted it didn't give me a choice. It just booted into Windows. I don't know how a distro would work.

Do you remember what the error message was?

No I don't. I just click the ok button. I didn't think to make a note of it till my computer rebooted. When I installed Celena. My splash screen list two Mint install on the hard drive it's installed on. But, both says Mint KDE. No mater which one I chose it boots into my KDE install. If it would help you I can post what the Grub menu.1st says from both partitions (KDE and Gnome - backup) says. They're different. Or, if you need a screen shot of the GNOME Partition Editor of the drive. I'm thinking of reinstalling it. But, I don't want to mess my boot of Celena up. I don't know if I could get it back if I messed the boot up.
