if its recognised in edgy it should be in mint

Actually it isn't in Edgy Eft but version 1.4.4 isn't available there yet ...
I don't think that this has anything to do with Amarok. This depends on the OS, if it can see your player or not. What happens if you connect your Zen to the PC? Does it see it as sort of external USB disk?
