Skype causes network disconnection

Post by Bluebris »

This is kind of a weird issue.
I installed Skype on my LMDE as per instructions on this forum, but i'm unable to actually log in with it.

I know the username and pw are correct as i've just logged onto skype.com with the same credentials.

I try to log into skype on the laptop, and it just says "signing in" for several minutes, after which it says "Signin failed. P2P connect failed."

Once this happens, although my laptop still shows as being connected to the network ok, it won't connect to any webpages. They all time out and i have to reboot to reconnect.

Any ideas?

Inxi -f gives the following info if that helps:

BUMP

I have the same issue on wired LAN with both Skype and Google Talk Video chat:
As soon as a video chat starts, the LAN connection reports that it has been disconnected. I have already tried disabling UPnP on the router, as some have suggested, but it does not make a difference.

My network card reports that it is an MCP79 (Nvidia ION chipset).

Turns out that the power supply was on its way out. With the new power supply in place, the Ethernet connection no longer randomly drops out.
