WINE seems to be outdated

Post by KenWeiLL »

As I have noticed from the repo, WINE seems to be outdated.
Even after adding a repo for debian sid, still, wine is version 1.1.42.
Latest stable version is already 1.2 and dev 1.3.3 (as of this writing).

How can I install the latest stable (1.2) or the latest dev (1.3.3 and updated) for LMDE? Can't I use the sources from WINE for Ubuntu? WINE sources for Ubuntu is always updated to the latest developement version.

Anyone knows how?

Ken,

For a .deb package the latest you can get is version 1.1.42

To get the latest, ie 1.2 stable or 1.3.3 dev, you will have to download the source tarball and build it on your system. Links for the source tarballs are at the bottom of the page proxima_centauri provided.

Thanks.
That's where I got my wine. After adding any of the repos, and refreshing package manager, wine version is still 1.1.42

I just added the ubuntu repo and installed wine 1.3 from there, i don't know why wine doesn't update their debian repositories or why u still can't find newer versions in sid or experimental

Sid is basically testing right now, so it really wouldn't have much newer packages. Experimental is where the newest stuff is going, and I'm surprised to hear that's not up to date.

When using wine I tend to just use their Debian repo. Instructions are here: http://www.winehq.org/download/deblenny
