Re: Autologin (without gdm or kdm)
Why not just remove gdm using apt-get/Synaptic first then setup autologin?

Re: Autologin (without gdm or kdm)
i really need to do all that with a script because i wont to make a script that sets up automatically my systems settings.
it will add repositories , keys, add/delete some applications, change some xfce settings .

Re: Autologin (without gdm or kdm)
Hi craigevil Many many thanks for this.
It was driving me nuts trying to auto login in as root and this link sorted it perfectly.
I just added "startx" to my /etc/local
The only problem so far that I have found is for some reason the arrow keys in a terminal no longer work and I get funny characters and then a "A" or a "B" etc
any ideas?
thanks
