But don't forget that Mint started as a fork of Ubuntu and wouldn't be here if not for Ubuntu...

Just figured Id point out theres another happy LMDE user here. Been almost exclusively on Debian Stable. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. I think this may be my choice OS for a desktop!
