Debian Squeeze Release -- HOT!!

Hi all,

Once again, and hopefully for a final time, I'm writing to you with a
release update.

Timings
=======

Now that a release candidate of the installer has been uploaded[0], and
tested, a few issues have been identified and was binNMUed today. This
should turn into RC2 by the end of the week. This means we are able to
begin the final preparations for a release of Debian 6.0 - "Squeeze".

Following on from above, we now have a target date of the weekend of 5th
and 6th of February 2011, for the 'stable' release of Debian 6.0 Squeeze.

. We have checked with core teams, and
this seems to be acceptable for everyone.

The intention is only to lift that date if something really critical
pops up that is not possible to handle as an errata, or if we end up
technically unable to release that weekend (eg., a needed machine
crashes, RC2 exploding in a giant ball of fire etc.). Every other fix
that doesn't make it in time will be r1 material. Please be sure to
contact us about the RC fixes you'd like included in the point release!

Status
======
From the usertags page[1]: you can see a total of:
Blockers for Squeeze bugs (4 bugs)
Planned for removal bugs (22 bugs)
Ignored for Squeeze bugs (109 bugs)

These have all been actioned/fixed. However, there are also between
25/30 bugs that haven't yet been tagged[2] and aren't hinted. These will
be actioned shortly.

Please help contribute! Let's tell everyone why Squeeze will be the best
release ever.

As well as this, release notes, installation guides and documentation in
general, especially translations can always do with some work. Please
see previous mails on these, and help if you can.

Correct, if you already have LMDE . . . and have kept up with ALL the updates -- you are there already.

Of course, if you want to take advantage of something like the new Debian Installer, you would have to download the new release.

Will we continue using the testing repositories or will we be changed to stable once Squeeze is released?
I would assume since we are currently using testing, the release of Squeeze would be a non- event for us. Correct??

since LMDE was released Testing was in freeze and then in deep freeze, now is time to roll on again and interesting times may arrive

Once Squeeze goes 'stable' the LMDE users that use 'Debian 'stable' will enjoy the well-known stability of Debian.

But, LMDE is based on Debians 'testing' branch which has been in the 'freeze' these many months.
So most of what has come to us as updates ... have only been minor-updates or 'bug' fixes. Nothing major or new.
Those of us, that have chosen 'testing' ... will finally see what Debian 'testing' and a "rolling release" is all about.

You can expect a 'flood' of new updates/upgrades to Apps and general updates, once the new Wheezy (testing) version is released.
However, since everything has already cleared Debians 'experimental' and 'unstable' branches... they are fairly stable, by the time, testing gets them.

Not to worry ... I have never had a release of Debian "b0rk" (break) on me ... that I didn't cause myself.

I have been using Debian 'testing' for years ... since, before Lenny went stable.

yeahh vrkalak is right (what else is new?) my LMDE is tracking sid since mid september and there's no way to break (i try, honestly i try but it just keeps going on )
