One thing I just noticed that LMDE is missing is the GDebi .deb installer. It's a nice GUI that takes care of sorting through all the dependencies and whatnot in order to install .debs. Yeah, I usually install via apt or the Mint Software Center, but sometimes a .deb needs to be installed.
So I'm wondering if there's any reason this was not included with the Debian edition. I'm guessing the reason it's not there is probably just because it's included by default with Ubuntu (I'm guessing) but not with Debian, and nobody got around to adding it back into the LMDE version, but of course I could be wrong.
I went ahead and installed it now and it's working fine. Wasn't a big deal (I just had to go back to my other Mint maching (running the main edition) and get the name of that thingie that installs the .debs), but still would be nice to have it there right out of the box.

Re: GDebi?
I have LMDE x64 . . . and my release has the GDebi App. included.
Only, thing GDebi is NOT listed in the Menu . . . but it is there. I don't know why the Devs chose not to list it in the Menu.
When I go to install a .deb file, that I have downloaded . . . the computer asks if you want to open with GDebi? And it does.

Re: GDebi?
I'm running 32 bit, and there was no GDebi until I installed it. When I clicked on the .deb file it opened it with the archive manager, and when I right-clicked it there was no GDebi option. Also, when I went to install it, it wasn't marked as already installed (there was no option to remove or re-install), so it definitely wasn't there on my version of LMDE.vrkalak wrote:I have LMDE x64 . . . and my release has the GDebi App. included.

Re: GDebi?
The 64 bit version has it (when you right click on the file it is shown as one of the options)....
Re: GDebi?
My 32-bit LMDE install also included Gdebi and it appears as an option in the context menu for .deb files.

Re: GDebi?
You can check in /usr/bin for GDebi. It does come default with Lmde though. If it's not there, it must be corrupt or deleted. Check your lost & found.
Re: GDebi?
I have it in my 32Bit.
I am using the 201101 Re-Spin, and I didn't have to install it.
Thanks,
Dave
