Set default programs?

Post by mudpie »

How can I set Firefox (not Epiphany) as my default browser?
And Adobe/acroread as my default .pdf viewer?

I thought it was Nautilus>Edit>Preferences - but that just lets you set up defaults for inserted media. Whoops.

I also right-clicked on a .pdf file, >Open With>Other Application, and typed in "acroread" and checked "Remember this application for PDF document files"... but .pdfs still open with Evince.

Check "Preferred Applications" under Preferences in the menu to change your default browser.

As for the .pdf file, right-click and go to Properties, then go to the Open With tab, change the default there.

Bah.
I tried the "Preferred Applications" suggestion, but Firefox was already listed as the default browser. Still opens with Epiphany.

And I'd already tried the "Open With" method as well.

.pdf files still open in Envince.
.html files still open in Epiphany.

Alright I see Epiphany and Evince both in /etc/gnome/defaults.list

But I'm not sure how to change them.

Code: Select all

application/xhtml+xml=epiphany.desktop
text/html=epiphany.desktop
can that just be swapped out with firefox.desktop?

Code: Select all

application/pdf=evince.desktop
application/x-bzpdf=evince.desktop
application/x-gzpdf=evince.desktop
application/postscript=evince.desktop
application/x-bzpostscript=evince.desktop
application/x-gzpostscript=evince.desktop
image/x-eps=evince.desktop
image/x-bzeps=evince.desktop
image/x-gzeps=evince.desktop
application/x-dvi=evince.desktop
application/x-bzdvi=evince.desktop
application/x-gzdvi=evince.desktop
image/vnd.djvu=evince.desktop
image/tiff=evince.desktop
application/x-cbr=evince.desktop
application/x-cbz=evince.desktop
application/x-cb7=evince.desktop
same deal, acroread.desktop? Or just the first three that actually say "pdf" in the lines?

EDIT:
Nope! That didn't do it either. Fuuudge.
