Problem changing desktop theme

I have a problem with changing the desktop theme. When I try to apply a theme I have downloaded from gnome-look so change the theme to something who looks like windows 98/2000 theme.


Anyone who now what the problem can be?

1. Every theme I have tried.
2. Linux mint debian edition
3. Drag and drop into the theme selection.

Did you extract the theme before you did the drag and drop?
Did you select GTK2 themes?

I droped the tar.gz file. Yes I did choose gtk2.
I have used Ubuntu for a couple of years so I know how to change themes

I had to remove your screenshot as another user reported it as having a dodgy link which tried to download something suspicious onto his machine.
Maybe post it again using Omploader or a different image host.

You mention dragging the tarred theme into the theme window and the theme did not install. Did you, by chance, download this theme from DeviantArt? They sometimes tar a package that is already tarred. If this is the case, extracting the package from the outer tar wrapper may allow you to install the theme. If this is not the problem, read on.

Try creating a folder in your /home/username directory named ".themes" and adding the extracted theme to this folder. This works with quite a few themes.

If that does not work, open /usr/share/themes as root and copy the extracted theme into the folder. This should work for any theme.

You may also have to install the proper GTK2 theme engine to get the theme to display properly.

I have tried to put the theme in the theme folder in root but it didn't work.
The theme I tried in the screenshot is from deviantart. I have used it in ubuntu before with no problems.
The theme engines for just that theme are installed. I have spoken to the creator and asked him which engines I needed.

I still have problems with changing the theme.
Window borders work but not the controls.
