LMDE 64bit on a HP Notebook G62

Post by msm »

I've been offered to purchase this notebook at a very reasonable price, and I intend to install LMDE 64 bit version on it, but I'm not sure how well LMDE performs on this type of laptop. I've read that Linux works better with Nvidia graphic cards whereas the card in this machine is an ATI Radeon HD5470. Googling back and forth didn't really produce any satisfying answers so would like to know if anyone in here can provide some hands on experience concerning LMDE 64bit on a HP Notebook G62.

Thanks in advance.

Model : HP G62-B51SE
Factory OS : SUSE SLED 11
VGA Card : Ati Mobility Radeon HD 5470

* Deleted the factory os . i like debian based distros .
* My Model specs states that i have switchable graphics card .
* but only my ati card was detected
* so didnt bother to install ati driver .
* Installed windows and i was having battery loss . Thats when i really searched google on how to enable my locked intel hd gpu inside core i5 .
* from windows box followed this
* then booted to LMDE and switched to intel HD gpu by deleting x-org.conf .

Conclusion :
i use intel HD gpu for linux . and
switchable driver for windows (switchable as in with ac ati . in battery intel)
