Wifi gone after system freeze [SOLVED]

Hi,

Recently (probably since the last major update when the new Debian version was released, although I am not 100% sure) my laptop with LMDE 64bit has been freezing now and then. I was about to post a topic about this when it froze again. But this time, in contrast to the other times where nothing happened, my wifi connection has gone away. Completely. Since this is more urgent, I will wait with the freeze problem until this is solved. Right now I am cabled.

The green wifi icon on my Lenovo T500 is on, indicating that the wifi radio is working. And indeed it works if I boot up in Windows 7. But if I click on the network icon in the Gnome panel, it reports for Wifi: "Device is not managed". What does that mean?

I have tried restarting networking, which reports:

sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
Running /etc/init.d/networking restart is deprecated because it may not enable again some interfaces ... (warning).
Reconfiguring network interfaces...mount: No route to host
mount: No route to host
done.
I have also inspected the syslog for messages indication the cause of the problem. I have found nothing that to me appears as the "smoking gun", although there are several references to wifi/wlan.

Below I have posted snippets from my syslog dealing with wireless networking. Hopefully these, as well as my info above, can give someone a clue of what is wrong.

PS: I have only used level 1-3 updates and haven't tampered with the system. So it is still just a nice and clean LMDE.

It's not the first time that simply posting a question also helps me solve the problem myself. I guess it's because that in order to write a thorough post I am forced to think deeply about it, taking care to use the right words etc.

Anyway, I googled around and it turned out that there is not only one, but two services that needs restarting. So:

sudo /etc/init.d/network-manager restart
I also changed

[ifupdown]
managed=false
to

[ifupdown]
managed=true
in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf although I am not totally sure that step was necessary.
