MintUpdate doesn't update

Post by photek »

A strange thing happens

Tried to update my system via Mint Update

It executes the download but at 107 out of 112 packages stops and tells me

it couldn't retrieve all the packages and if i would like to continue

I tried 3 times and still no go

PS: the download rate seems to be steady at around 500kB approximately
Prior to stopping it stalls, it goes to "unknown download rate" and ends up with message above.

PS2: same thing happens if i want to install some other software with MintInstall(especially Deluge and Skype)
And becomes unresponsive i have to close it and not even Synaptic works unless i run some apt-get clean/purge etc

Any ideas? :D

thank you!!

Problems with one or more repositories probably
Can you pinpoint the package that creates the problem?
It can be the repo itself or that you have a bad connection to it.

Now i tried again

The update went through just fine ??!!!!

But it downloaded only the package 110 and 111
i am guessing all the others were there(on my hdd) and they were cached ??!
because when it started the actual update it did it in one shot (everything) not only the last two that were missing

Anyways i am happy now :D

On the other hand i am still having issues with the MintInstall
The packages that are giving me a hard time are deluge and skype

I installed them anyways using third party sources but it's not normal
I am sure there is a glitch somewhere

BTW did i tell you how much i love LinuxMint ?
No?

well i am telling you right now : I LOVE IT!!! JE L'ADORE !! :D :D

It became my favorite distro in a heartbeat!
I already installed it on two of my friends laptops sick of the Vista "moods"

Keep it coming ! :D

PS : The artwork is kickass!!!!

If you have problems with mintInstall or MintUpdate (and apt-get and Synaptic) there is always two sides of it
What's in your system and what's on the internet
And you know that internet can be really slow at times and so will these apps be

mintInstall is going through some massive surgery at the moment... the installation/download process is going to be handled directly by synaptic so that the mintInstall GUI can focus more on the user side of things.

Also it's getting i18n'd and bulletproofed :) Expect a new mintInstall soon.

Husse

I am well aware of inherent Internet bottlenecks or slowdowns
I am also aware that these programs/installers/custom tailored repositories were made by a bunch of enthusiats who spent their free time on doing it whithout getting any sort of ... financial "recognition" :D

Clem

I knew there was something going in the background.
keep doing the great job you're doing along with the whole Mint crew
I am sure the next release will be awesome!

"i18n'd " ... :D you lost us all here

i18n = Internationalization. Basically means that the tool is translatable (all sentences and words are externalized into a separate file... dynamically loaded depending on the locale). So for instance if you run an English Celena... mintUpdate will be in English, if you run a French Celena, mintUpdate will be in French.. if you run a Swedish Celena it will be in English (as there are no translations in Swedish..).
