Post by beew »

Hi,

I am wondering how to get 3D desktop to works. Compiz setting manager is installed but enabling the plugins didn't do a thing

Thanks.

you have to provide more information than that to get someone to help you.
1.whats your graphic card?
2. Have you tried installing properitory drivers for you card. 3. What do you get when you type 'compiz --replace' in the terminal(without the quotes.

Oh sorry. My video card is intel so I don't need any proprietary driver. On this machine Compiz runs flawlessly in Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10, Unity 3d in 11.04 works out of the box, composting in KDE also works in Fedora 14. So the card is definitely able to render 3d effects and no special driver is needed.

I am just not sure how to enable 3d effects in LMDE. In Ubuntu (except for 11.04 alpha which is automatic) I do it in the "appearance" menu where one can choose different degree of visual effects (none, normal, extra and so on) But that option does not appear to be in LMDE's appearance menu.

Opps, three times is a charm. Tried compiz --replace twice last night it didn't work but the third time it did! Maybe I was sleepy and mistyped something, Thanks.

you were able to do it because ubuntu has a plugin called simple ccm. But not in debian..it'll be a long wait to get that ported into lmde unless mint team does something about
